| Welcome to the TGC Arts and Culture newsletter! In this monthly newsletter I will share highlights from TGC’s recent arts and culture content, as well as links and resources on faith and art from across the web. I hope this newsletter is a helpful resource for believers who seek a more robust interaction with Christianity and the arts, as well as those who want to discover and celebrate the most excellent and praiseworthy artistic works out there, whether books or poems or Advent songs, or more. In this first newsletter installment I want to highlight a film that certainly ranks among the “most excellent and praiseworthy artistic works” of our time: Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life. I recently wrote a lengthy, deep-dive essay about the film on the occasion of the Criterion Collection release of an extended cut of the film. In the article (click below to read) I make the case that Life is the best Christian film ever made. It’s a film I think churches and small groups should screen and discuss. It’s a film that should be required viewing for any aspiring Christian filmmaker. It’s a film that, personally, I return to again and again. Whether you have seen Life several times already or decide to watch it for the first time soon, I hope my article is a helpful supplement for your appreciation of this one-of-a-kind film. |
