| If you’ve been paying attention to the news in recent months (and especially in the last few weeks), you’ve likely noticed the uptick in anti-Jewish fervor. It’s been particularly disturbing to witness what’s happening on college campuses, where Jewish students and professors are increasingly targeted with hateful rhetoric and sometimes violence. I’ve personally been grieved to see what’s playing out at my alma mater UCLA, where Jewish students make up 8 percent of the student population. Antisemitism isn’t new. But since October 7 it has been on the rise. What can we as Christians do to stand against anti-Jewish hate and stand with Jews in this tenuous moment? One thing we can do is bear witness to the humanity and stories of Jews. And movies can help us do this. That’s why I put together this list of recommended films and documentaries that depict some aspect of the Jewish experience—not just the traumas but also the joys. I encourage you to check out these films if you haven’t seen them. In so doing, you can actively push back against the currents of dehumanization and erasure that threaten Jews everywhere. |
