TGC | Arts & Culture

In my role as arts and culture editor at TGC, I delight in getting to discover and spotlight talented Christian artists. Contrary to stereotypes, quality Christian artists do exist! We just have to find them in the overwhelming glut of content.

That’s why, every summer for the last six years, I’ve released a list of up-and-coming or under-the-radar Christian artists who I believe are making music worthy of your attention. It takes many weeks—and much scouring through Spotify—for me to put these lists together. But I’m happy to spend that time. I love hearing from readers who tell me they discovered a new favorite Christian artist from one of my lists, or who discovered a new genre/sound of Christian music beyond what they’ve heard before. I’ve also heard from other Christian artists who are creatively inspired by the diversity of musical expression represented in these lists. When ideas for what Christian music can sound like are broadened, everyone wins.

This year’s list—released a few days ago—featured 15 artists from all over the world, including the U.S., U.K., Nigeria, Lithuania, and New Zealand. The styles of music they represent run the gamut from Appalachian folk to Afro-beats, lo-fi to contemporary jazz. Give the list a read and then check out the playlist samplers I made (on Spotify and Apple Music) to get a feel for these artists’ music. If you like what you hear, support these artists by following them on social media, sharing their music with others, and attending their concerts!

Quality Christian music is alive and well. Help me spread the word.
