A selection of recommended articles on books, music, film, and culture from The Gospel Coalition and around the web

I love curating lists of movies that point people to quality offerings they may have missed. In a streaming world where the “what to watch?” options are overwhelming, recommendations and curated lists are helpful. To that end, I’ve made many lists over the years: foreign films, documentaries, “Protestant” films, movies about the beauty of resurrection, and more.

Last week I published a new list at TGC—one I’ve been tinkering with for a few months: 50 Most Edifying Films of the 21st Century So Far

The list includes at least one movie from each of the last 25 years, and I intentionally selected movies rated PG-13 or less. These are all films which have stuck with me; movies I will gladly return to and enjoy sharing with others; movies which enriched and edified me in some way. If you love movies, peruse my picks and see which ones you missed when they originally released. Maybe you’ll discover a handful of great films to add to your list.
