My brother has been blessed with a wonderful singing voice— that was evident from an early age. When he was in second grade and I was in kindergarten, our elementary school hosted an evening program where each grade performed a song. I don’t remember much about it, but I do remember practicing mine at home. It had something to do with zoo animals on a train.
As I sang it with all the gusto a dramatic kindergarten girl could muster, my brother walked by, paused, and said, “You sound like you’re talking when you sing.”
He wasn’t wrong. I can’t carry a tune to save my life. And that, too, was clear early on.
Oh, how I wish I could sing. The more I’ve grown in love for God, the more I long to express that love by belting out beautiful songs of praise. There’s something truly magnificent about lifting your voice in worship. And don’t get me wrong—I still sing loudly and freely, all the while hoping no one but God can hear!
That’s why I was so encouraged by this week’s podcast, “Worship Is More Than a Playlist.” Emily Jensen reminds us that worship is all of life—our words, our work, and our “why”—not just the songs we sing. I hope this truth encourages you too, whether you can sing or not.
P.S. At TGCW26, we’ll join thousands of women in worship through song as Shane & Shane lead us—a beautiful expression of the larger worship we’re called to each day. If you haven’t registered yet, today is the last chance before the final price increase tomorrow!
