Dear Reader,
Welcome to TGC’s Books newsletter! In this monthly newsletter, I’ll gather a number of our key book reviews (we publish 12 per month) as well as link to other publications’ pieces that I find most intriguing, insightful, amusing, and delightful. Since this is our inaugural email, I’ve picked articles from the past year or so that relate to the reading life.
With the start of 2019, perhaps you’d like to pick up a book from our 2018 TGC Book Awards. And as I wrote there, with our attention spans decreasing and as we’re sucked into the social-media vortex with its trivialities and Outrage of the Day, one way we can quietly resist is by reading a book. Such a small act, when joined to an abiding walk with Jesus and a life of service in his church, makes a radical difference in our lives and those around us.
Every bibliophile I meet is immediately a kindred spirit, so I hope this will be a welcome resource to you as a fellow book lover. Feel free to comment and let us know what you’d like to see in later versions of this newsletter at books@thegospelcoalition.org or just reply to this email.

Chapoutot tells the story of the gradual, logical, coherent corruption of an entire society in the service of great evil. In doing so it not only teaches us about the rise of Nazism. It also teaches us about the dynamics of moral thinking and behavior in a way that is a warning to us all, no matter how small and insignificant the little worlds we happen to inhabit.
