Several years ago, Ray Ortlund Jr. wrote a book on revival. He argued revival isn’t the kind of work God randomly does every once in a while. Rather, it’s the regular ministry of the gospel with an unusual amount of fruit and effectiveness. It’s the normal ministry God has called us to, but with abnormal results.

That’s exactly what Kyle Richter and Patrick Miller are observing among the students in their campus ministry. “One year ago, we had 350 students at our church’s largest campus ministry meeting,” said Miller on social media. “Two weeks ago, there were over 1,000.” In the wake of the Asbury revival last spring, Miller and Richter believe the Holy Spirit may be priming the souls of hundreds of thousands of Gen Z students for renewal.

Richter and Miller identify five factors that have prepared the souls of a new generation for God’s renewing work. We must be careful about predicting revival. God’s wind only blows where he wills. But we also know his Word gives life when it falls on good soil. Let’s continue to go into the fields, believing our faithful God is there preparing a fruitful and abundant harvest!

With hope for new life,
