| Yesterday, throughout the U.S., voters poured into school gymnasiums, fairgrounds pavilions, and church fellowship halls to make their voices heard. Many Christians were among them. After all, the candidates and issues on the ballot were significant. We voted for school board members, congressional candidates, and state amendments that protect unborn lives. By the time this newsletter is sent on Wednesday, polls will be closed and we’ll already know many of the results. Whatever initiatives passed, whatever the makeup of congress, the truth about our political reality remains unchanged. People may be divided, but Christ is still on his throne. As Patrick Schreiner recently wrote for TGC, “The most politically active thing church leaders can do each week is remind people Jesus is King.” Because Jesus reigns, we can remain calm when the politicians rage. Because Christ is King, we can have conversations about politics that are reasonable and sober-minded (Phil. 4:5; Titus 2:2, 8). Because he’s sovereign, we can follow up a day of political drama by fervently praying for all those who rule and govern us (1 Tim. 2:1–2). In the wake of whatever decisions were made at the ballot box Tuesday, let’s bend our knees to the Lord of the nations today. He’s still in control. Trusting King Jesus, |
