| In the first days of January, 2020, none of us had any idea a global pandemic would wholly reshape life just a few months later. Last January, few of us had it on our radar that a Ukraine-Russia conflict would in March become Europe’s most significant war since World War II. What will the 2023 story be, which none of us can now foresee? Who knows. Life is unpredictable and uncontrollable. The world is tenuous; our fortunes are fragile. Thankfully, our God is not. As Phil Thompson reminds us in the timely article below, there are theological constants we can cling to as we face an uncertain future. Psalm 90 reminds us that while our lives are ephemeral, God is unchanging “from everlasting to everlasting.” There’s no better truth to anchor us as we begin a new year. At TGC, we want to keep this truth in center view as we produce articles, podcasts, reviews, and more in 2023. Our goal is to foreground the unchanging gospel in this changing world, bringing what isn’t in flux (biblical truth) to bear on what is in flux (the news, cultural trends, emerging issues). Only the immovable anchor of God’s Word can keep us from going adrift in the tumultuous sea of modern life. And the only 2023 prediction we can make with complete confidence is that God will continue to be in complete control, as he has been from everlasting to everlasting. So read the article below, open your Bible to Psalm 90, and breathe in its nourishing, calming truth. May it remind us to rest in God’s sovereign bigness in 2023, and seek his sweet presence constantly. Let verse 14 be our prayer as this new year dawns: “Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.” |
