On a recent Saturday evening, I decided to tidy my cluttered bookshelves. The quick tidy soon turned into a multihour project to take out all the books and completely reorganize them. Halfway through, I sat on the floor surrounded by Christian books in towers of varied disarray (the C. S. Lewis stack had already toppled). I felt a pang of regret about the project I’d gotten myself into, but I was also thankful for the wealth of resources around me. Many of the books I’d read; many more sat like gifts waiting to be opened at the right time. A couple of my shelves are dedicated to titles published before the twentieth century, but most of the books are newer. And I’m adding to my collection all the time.

One of the resources I use to guide my purchases is The Gospel Coalition’s annual book awards—and the 2024 winners were announced yesterday! We highlight the year’s best books across 11 categories: everything from picture books to biblical studies to history.
