The Bible leaves us with so many wonderful mysteries. We read just enough to catch a glimpse of God’s work, but we’re left wanting so many more details. Here are two mysteries I ponder often: After Jesus resurrected, how exactly did he spend those 40 days before he ascended to the right hand of the Father? And what does his intercession accomplish for us now?

We can’t know everything Jesus taught during those 40 days, but the New Testament helps us make an informed inference. And Jesus didn’t tell us in detail how he would intercede. But we know that because he still lives, he advocates for our salvation (Heb. 7:25).

Shortly after this last Easter, The Gospel Coalition launched 40 days of prayer and giving for the global church. We use digital publishing to spread the good news about Jesus found in his Word. Our global team of editors and writers lead 15 regional and language sites that can be read by 4 billion people. We persist in this work because we know that the ascended Jesus delights to intercede on behalf of his blood-bought people among every tribe and tongue and nation.

So we’re praying in these 40 days, as we share stories of the persevering church around the world, that God would use the modern means of articles, podcasts, and social media to reveal himself—especially to people who can access the internet but don’t know any Christians. And we need your support. We’re asking God to use these 40 days to ignite a prayer movement for the global church, and that through an outpouring of generosity we can further fuel their work.
