This past weekend, I went with 75 women from my church to the North Carolina mountains for a women’s retreat. It had been a while since I attended one of these, but most of the retreat unfolded as I expected: multiple times of worship and studying the Word together, opportunities for small group discussion, and an epic pickleball tournament (OK, that one was new). But I realized I had forgotten one of the hidden gems of a women’s retreat—free time.

The freedom to have lunch with friends, and then go to a coffee shop to continue our conversation, felt like a luxury. No one had to run to a meeting, pick up a child from school, or get to a doctor’s appointment. We just sat and talked—for hours. I don’t remember the last time I had so many meaningful conversations with women in my church or even with my closest friends. Deep conversations are rare in our fast-paced, virtual world.

That’s why I’m excited about The Deep Dish, TGC’s new podcast for women hosted by Melissa Kruger and Courtney Doctor. In each episode, they’ll have a deep conversation with special guests about deep truths that will not only give you something edifying to fill your earbuds, but also ideas to spark your own deep conversations. As you listen, we hope you’ll be encouraged that having deep conversations doesn’t require a certain amount of time or a distraction-free space. Having deep conversations is really about connecting our lives to the gospel.
