| It’s a rare day on social media when I witness a helpful interaction between folks on opposing sides of a contested issue. Most of what we see in online discourse is characterized by bad faith tactics: demonizing our opponent, mischaracterizing their position, avoiding their actual arguments via whataboutism, and so forth. Even Christians—whose lives and words should manifest the fruit of the Spirit—are struggling to have charitable debates in the digital age. That’s why I’m so encouraged by the Good Faith Debates, TGC’s new video series which just launched. In these debates, two Christians on different sides of debatable questions model what it looks like to disagree well, with love and charity, in good faith. The first episode features Bob Thune and Andrew Wilson debating gun control. I strongly suggest you make time to watch it or listen to the audio. No matter which side you agree with more, you’ll learn a lot about how to think Christianly about this issue—and how to have conversations with people who think differently.
