I don’t remember the first time someone shared the gospel with me. Blessed to grow up in a Christian family, I heard the good news about Jesus on a nearly daily basis. I was evangelized by Christian parents, Sunday school teachers, and VBS leaders who passed on the faith to me week in and week out.

In a recent talk on Evangelizing through Catechesis, Ligon Duncan talks about the high calling of passing on the faith to the next generation. One tried-and-true method is the memorization of questions and answers we call catechisms. Here at The Gospel Coalition, we’ve been working for the past several years to produce resources to help parents and churches catechize children through The New City Catechism. A simple way to start is to download the New City Catechism app and play the songs. Children find memorizing the catechism nearly effortless when the questions and answers are set to music.

You don’t have to be a parent to be involved in catechesis (I’m not). Whether you’re a Sunday school teacher, babysitter, uncle, or aunt, if there’s a child in your life, you have a chance to pass on the faith to the next generation.
