This weekend I spoke at a church in Atlanta about how the church can be a counterculture for good. I lectured for an hour about the challenges and opportunity for Christians in a secular age. We covered everything from Nike marketing, to the odd and accessible early church, to skepticism toward authority due to “expressive individualism.” Afterward, I fielded perceptive questions on a variety of topics, especially how we uphold biblical ethics when challenged by hostile skeptics.

But there was one question I knew I should anticipate in Atlanta. One of the city’s most famous pastors, Andy Stanley, has been teaching and writing that Christians must “unhitch” from the Old Testament and more effectively evangelize our neighbors. How, then, should Christians read and interpret the Old Testament? Thankfully I had recently helped to edit the review by Michael Kruger of Stanley’s new book. So if you want to learn more about how the Old and New Testaments fit together and testify to the one true God, I encourage you to read and share Kruger’s review.
