| If there was ever a time for the Supreme Court to take a big swing at Roe v. Wade, it was last week. Many hoped the Court’s five conservative justices would uphold a Louisiana law requiring doctors who perform abortions to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital. But Chief Justice John Roberts—who had voted in favor of similar restrictions four years ago—this time sided with the liberal justices to knock down the limitations. The next day, Roberts joined with conservative justices to rule that states who have scholarship programs cannot discriminate against religious schools. These are confusing times, but we don’t have to be confused. Religious freedom attorney Luke Goodrich joined Collin Hansen on the Gospelbound podcast to talk through legal issues from abortion to gay rights. Their conversation is both engaging and enlightening, laying out both the seriousness of our current legal climate and reasons for hope. “Jesus said, ‘In this world you will have trouble,’” Goodrich says. “And I’m a realist and on the front lines of these cases every day. I can tell you we are going to have some trouble when it comes to religious freedom. But in the very next breath, Jesus said, ‘Take heart. I have overcome the world.’” |
