Every election in the United States produces a flurry of cultural commentary. Elections don’t tell us everything, but they tell us some things that help us understand our mission field.

Recently, a pastor friend reached out to me as he prepared for a post-election discussion with other church leaders. I wrote up a few questions they could take back to their churches to assess their ministry in light of trends among the American electorate. You may find them helpful for your own church.

1. What does it mean that the GOP is winning elections as the party has become more pro-choice and abortion restrictions are removed even in Republican states?

2. How should we engage self-identified “cultural Christians” who don’t attend church but worry about our culture’s direction on issues such as transgender ideology?

3. Do you observe increased spiritual interest from young men? Is your church positioned to disciple such men who might be deriving that interest from voices such as Andrew Tate and Jordan Peterson?

4. Which podcasts or social media accounts are popular among church members? Do you see this influence helping your congregation go deeper in the Scriptures and holiness? If not, which alternatives do you offer or recommend?

5. How has your ministry to Latinos and Spanish speakers grown or changed in recent years?

6. How is your church helping young men and women collaborate in ministry at a time when they seem to be diverging in political outlook and marrying later or not at all?

Every week, we take up these kinds of questions and more on my podcast Gospelbound. On Election Day, we released an interview with Tim Carney on why parenting has become so much harder. While billions were spent on securing control over the White House and Congress, I suspect the issues Carney and I discussed have a much bigger effect on our culture—and on your life. Don’t miss the opportunity of the election to ask questions and reassess how your family and church reflect the “peace of God, which surpasses all understanding” (Phil. 4:7).
