Of all your resolutions for the new year, where does Bible study fit? I don’t mean that weekly event you attend; I mean the posture you assume each time you open the most magnificent Book you own.

Perhaps you bristle at the word “study.” I still recall my own surprise when I first noticed Psalm 111:2: “Great are the works of the LORD, studied by all who delight in them.” “Studied” is not the verb I expected. “Remembered” or “celebrated,” maybe, but “studied”? And yet, even the most casual glance at everyday life confirms this truth: we study what we love. In an article titled “How to Study Your Bible in 2020,” I present a three-step process for absorbing God’s life-transforming Word. This method has helped me and many others over the years, and I pray it serves you.

We at The Gospel Coalition also invite you to join our brand-new Read the Bible initiative in 2020. Following Robert Murray M’Cheyne’s classic plan, we will be providing a variety of content as we journey together through God’s Word—all 365 days of the year. Participation is simple:

  • Download the PDF reading plan. This will take us through the entire Bible in a year (including the New Testament and Psalms twice).
  • Subscribe to our daily newsletter. You’ll receive a devotional reflection from Don Carson, along with weekly discussion questions.
  • Subscribe to our daily podcast (Apple | RSS | Stitcher). This podcast features a reading of Carson’s daily devotional commentary
  • Watch for articles and videos corresponding to the daily Scripture readings. These will help us answer tough questions that arise from what we’re reading.

“The Bible,” Jen Wilkin writes, “is our burning bush.” Whether you’re an individual Christian, a small group, a Sunday school class, or a whole church, join TGC in 2020 as we return, day after day, to this sacred ground.
