| Much of what we see in the news about Christianity is discouraging: trends of faith deconstruction and dechurching, scandals and leader downfalls, political corruption and moral compromise. Yet this is far from the full story. God hasn’t stopped building his church. The gospel hasn’t stopped being the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes (Rom. 1:16). Lives are being transformed by God’s grace every day, in ways that might not grab headlines but are nonetheless beautiful and important. Sarah Zylstra’s most recent story is a great example. It’s about a few West Virginia teens who, 25 years ago, swapped keggers for Christ and launched a series of revival meetings that have borne significant fruit ever since. Take time to read it and fill your soul with the sort of grateful refreshment that is rare these days in our scrolling world. We need to tell—and hear—these stories. That’s why, at TGC, we invest in telling them. Gospel testimonies and conversion stories may not go viral or fit what the algorithms think the internet wants—but that won’t stop us from prioritizing them in our publishing schedule at TGC. Because when we regularly read or hear about how the gospel changes lives, we rehearse the gospel’s truth and appreciate its beauty in our own lives. It also puts so much of the other clutter in our feeds in perspective. We’re reminded that in a culture of flux and fragmentation, the gospel’s power is enduring and global, as transformative and unifying today as it was millenia ago. |
