Charles Spurgeon once said, “The very best way for you to be spending your leisure, is to be either reading or praying. You may get much instruction from books which afterwards you may use as a true weapon in your Lord and Master’s service.” That’s why reading good books matters. That’s why highlighting good books has always been a priority for TGC.

Yesterday, we announced the results of The Gospel Coalition’s 2025 Book Awards. These are the best Christian books published this year. They span 11 categories from academic theology to picture books. I’ve read many of the award winners over the years. I’ve always been delighted and encouraged.

Your shelves may already be full—mine are overflowing—but I hope you’ll make room for a few of these excellent titles. They’ll edify you and equip you as you work for Christ.

Whether you read a stack of books each year or a few carefully chosen volumes, you’ll find something on this list that’s worth your time. You might just find the perfect Christmas-season gift for someone you love.
