| Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching in various Bible institutes, seminaries, or informal Bible schools around the world. One seminary’s library was about the size of my dining room with a set of four bookcases full of Portuguese resources. One Bible institute in India boasted an entire bookshelf of English resources. And I’ve seen some Latin American training sites with nothing more than a single shelf of books. The American church overflows with reference resources that have become the backbone to the resurgence of expository preaching in evangelical churches. How can we make a dent in this disparity? What about the pastors and teachers and Bible study leaders who’ve never had the ability to pick up a reference resource like a commentary? What about the men and women who are saving up weeks and weeks of hard-earned income just to purchase Bible study tools or software? Should we sit idly by and hope for a day when those pastors will produce their own study resources out of thin air? What if we could help kickstart these efforts? What if we could create a new resource that addresses contemporary issues and challenges of interpretation? What if it was written in a way that the average pastor or lay leader could read it? What if it came from a sound Reformed evangelical outlook? And what if this resource could be read online for free, reprinted legally, and translated without barriers? Our goal has been to accomplish all of this and more with the publication of TGC’s new commentary series. Over the next two years, volumes of this new resource will begin appearing on the digital shelves of trainers, pastors, and ministry leaders across Latin America, the Middle East, and North Africa. We pray that through this resource God’s people would be resourced, his Word taught, and his church built. |
