| If former generations of parents awkwardly struggled to have “the birds and the bees” conversation with their kids, today’s parents must also engage their children in the “hes and the shes” talk. The very basics of biological sex—that we are created male or female (Gen. 1:27)—are now up for grabs. Transgender ideology is the latest bad fruit of the sexual revolution, and it’s being offered enticingly to scores of vulnerable young people. The message—you create you—is pitched as a path to renewal, but like Eden’s forbidden fruit, it’s poison that only leads to pain. Christian parents would be wise to seek solid theological resources on this emerging topic, and how to talk to their kids about it. This is what Josh Glaser and Paula Rinehart offer in their recent TGC article, a resource replete with helpful insights and sample questions you might ask to get your kids thinking biblically about sex and gender. This is important, write Glaser and Rinehart, because today’s gender ideology offers an alternative gospel: “Our kids feel the longing felt by everyone since the fall—the longing for resurrection and connection. Believe and receive a new name, a new identity, a new body, a new and loving community. Transgender ideology offers this ‘good news’ to our kids, but it cannot deliver.” As a parent myself, I’m thankful for leaders like Glaser and Rinehart, willing to speak up boldly for the good of our children, even when what they say is labeled “dangerous” by gender ideologues. We can’t be silent about this issue, which cuts to the core of who we are as human creatures, designed intentionally by a Creator. For the flourishing of our kids—and the world they’ll one day lead—let’s lean into this important conversation now, before it’s too late. |
