My church has a designated area for those who wish to wear a mask during our times of corporate worship. My family and I are usually up there along with many local healthcare workers. In the last several weeks I’ve had conversations with several of them about the challenges they face, the sadness they witness, and the weariness they feel.

After a year and a half of living through this pandemic, it’s easy to forget that many of these folks who were lauded as heroes early on are now, at times, largely forgotten. With the recent Delta variant and subsequent spike of cases, these healthcare workers are still on the frontlines. As Gaye Clark writes, “The pandemic and the Delta variant hit us healthcare workers like a one-two punch.”

As we continue in this prolonged season with a resurgent virus, we’d be well-served by remembering these seven things Christian healthcare workers would like us to know. If anything, it should engender greater compassion for and patience with a group that, at risk to themselves, continues to serve the most vulnerable among us.
