| When someone asks me about TGC, I just point to the name: we’re a gospel coalition. We center on the gospel: the good news that Jesus has died and resurrected to save sinners. And we draw together a coalition that celebrates this same gospel across age and denomination and nationality and politics and ethnicity and gender. We find that this concept of a gospel coalition is increasingly important, even as it’s increasingly rare. The world sees groups that unite around sports and country and race and presidents and generations. But a group that loves each other even across all these differences? That’s harder to find in this climate that seeks to divide and distract, to pit us against each other, and ultimately against God. Sometimes it can feel like the world is tearing apart, and we’re helpless to stop it. But the Spirit gives us every good gift to love the people the world says we can’t, or we shouldn’t. And when we love Christians who disagree with us, the world recognizes us as disciples of Jesus (John 13:35). That’s what we’re trying to do with The Gospel Coalition: elevate the gospel in a coalition united across differences by shared love for God and love for each other. It can be hard to see that kind of unity through newsletters and online articles—let alone Facebook comments. So that’s why I’m excited to worship God together with thousands of these disciples next month in Indianapolis. We’d love for you to join us, in person or virtually, April 12 to 14. |
