| Last year, my colleague Megan Hill invented the TGC Essay Contest for Young Adults. She was convinced Gen Z had some Daniels in it—and some Josiahs and some Esthers. She thought some young adults were not only following Jesus, but were thoughtful and serious about it. So we tossed them a softball—three, actually. We asked why the gospel was essential for their generation, why they loved their local church, and what Bible doctrine they’d learned to love. Nearly 200 young people hit it out of the park. Their answers were thought-provoking, beautiful, sometimes surprising and sometimes heartbreaking. We loved to read them, and published dozens for you to read too. A few months ago, Megan set up the contest again. She asked what Gen Z is getting right, which church member helped them love Jesus more, and which evangelistic approach Gen Z needs most. Again, we were not disappointed. Not only can Gen Z Christians see the problems with their generation clearly, but they can see how the gospel meets those needs. They can tell you why it’s important to hear gospel-centered preaching, invite people over for Sunday lunch, and hold onto objective truth. Truly, the Lord shows his steadfast love to a thousand generations (Ex. 20:6). Take a look. |
