| A recent conversation with new friends reminded me of how jumbled I can get in spiritual conversations. I’m always impressed by Jesus’ ability to love and lead a conversation. His wisdom, creativity, and boldness teach me each time I study the Gospels. Jesus’s intentional and often tender dialog points me to the work of salvation he came to do and the message he came to preach. Each time I have to stop and ask myself: “Do I truly believe this today?” and “Do I truly speak this?” I thought of these questions again as thousands heard the messages this week at The Gospel Coalition 2019 Conference, Conversations with Jesus, in Indianapolis. Preachers, including Tim Keller, Don Carson, Trip Lee, H.B. Charles Jr., and David Platt, faithfully illuminated gospel essentials. They encouraged us to freshly embrace truths that can sometimes sound overly familiar. “Salvation is a gift of God by God’s grace,” we heard. “You must be born again,” Keller told us. “Only Jesus is willing and able to save you,” Lee reminded us. The preaching led us to believe and rejoice in gospel faithfulness. I commend to you the keynote messages that are now online. May they spur us to continued belief and continued speech about the good news of Jesus Christ. In addition, you can listen to the workshops from TGC19. They are a treasure of insight into a variety of topics related to the gospel and the work of the church. Your sister in the gospel, Taylor Turkington |
