| I recently finished a stressful semester of college. Most of my classes were discussion-based, and the topics we talked about were often controversial. Relating to fellow students became challenging as our beliefs weren’t guaranteed to align. So, I didn’t always feel comfortable sharing my thoughts. I didn’t always want to be vocal about what I believe because I didn’t want my beliefs to start disagreements or offend a classmate. I struggled to know when it was appropriate to speak up about my faith and how to let my faith shape my work ethic. In her recent article, “How Can I Point to Christ When Work Gets Stressful?” Miranda Carls writes, “Our Christian faith shouldn’t simply intersect with other aspects of our life. It should be fully integrated into our entire existence.” These words have challenged me, reminding me that my faith is not a perspective to put on when it’s convenient—my faith should be my perspective. As we consider how to integrate our Christian faith into our work, our studies, and all areas of our lives, Carls offers three helpful encouragements: 1) identify as a Christian, 2) respond to questions with grace and candor, and 3) let your actions demonstrate Christ. Rather than being hesitant to reveal our true identity as Christians, we can be open about our faith as we engage others with the grace and kindness of Christ. In Christ, |
