| I often refer to February as the longest month of the year. The hope of the new year seems burdened by the daily monotony of routines, and the weather outside (which once made the fire so delightful) often feels cold and gray. We’re ready for springtime blooms, but the landscape appears barren and lifeless. While weather patterns follow set seasons, our spiritual lives aren’t set by a monthly calendar. You may have missed starting a new Bible reading plan in January, but it doesn’t mean you need to wait until next year. The winter days of February can become a bit brighter by allowing God’s Word to bring spiritual warmth and light. Last fall, I interviewed my friend Trillia Newbell about her new book, 52 Weeks in the Word: A Companion for Reading through the Bible in a Year. Here’s the good news about her book—you can start those 52 weeks at any point in the year. You don’t have to wait until next January, you can begin today. As Trillia explains, “The goal of 52 Weeks in the Word isn’t to win some race or prize; we don’t earn more favor before the Lord. The goal is Bible reading. It is a journal, a cheerleader, and a guide to help you continue reading. I am your Bible reading accountability partner here to help you get in the Word, stay in the Word, and gain biblical literacy.” She also has a podcast that you can listen to as you read along. If you’ve already let go of your expectations for your new year’s resolutions, let me encourage you not to miss out on the feast of God’s Word. He’s prepared a spiritual banquet and invites you to come and enjoy a soul satisfying meal—without money and without cost (Isa. 55). His Word awakens hope, shines light, offers comfort, and revives the weary soul—in every season of the year. Enjoy the feast, |
