| After the bustle—and heat—of summer, October is the time when my family picks up our interactions with our neighbors. The man across the street usually comes over to do a pass across our front yard with his gasoline-powered leaf blower. My children regularly head next door to rake leaves alongside our aging neighbor with back trouble. If I’ve got extra food, I’ll send some dinner over for him, too. And, on an evening family walk down the street, we pause to visit with the elderly woman a few doors down. We’ve lived in our house for four years now, and, little-by-little, we are building relationships with the people around us. These ordinary interactions—over plates of food and piles of leaves—are important work, as Courtney Doctor reminds us. They are not themselves evangelism, but they build the bridge of friendship and make a space for our family to walk across with the gospel message as we have opportunity. Whether you are out raking leaves or still hovering over the office air-conditioner, take a look at some of this month’s resources and upcoming events from TGC. Hopefully, one of them will give you a fresh gospel perspective on the place where you live and work. In Christ, |
