| Yesterday, I sat on the couch. I wore pajamas all day. I drank lots of water. If you asked me, “What did you do today?” my answer would have been, “I survived.” Exhaustion, body aches, and a throbbing head meant that my very long to-do list had to wait for another day—today, it was hard enough just to feed myself. As the day progressed, and I became increasingly frustrated by my lack of productivity, Emma Scrivener’s words encouraged me: “It’s easy to assume we are doing nothing. But that’s simply not true. A homebound friend, constrained by chronic illness, prays faithfully for others and thereby achieves great things for God’s kingdom. God uses the weak and the unseen and the overlooked.” Her article reminded me that my day on the couch wasn’t a wasted day. Our ordinary, mundane days of service matter. I may not have accomplished the work I hoped to do, but it didn’t mean the day was lost. I checked in on some friends and spent time in prayer. My limitations didn’t hinder God’s plan for my day, he just used them to redirect what he wanted me to do. Whatever work the Lord has for you today, I hope these articles will encourage you.
