March Newsletter

Whenever I ask about someone who makes compelling videos for YouTube, I get the same answer.

Gavin Ortlund of Truth Unites.

We’re blessed to serve alongside Gavin as a fellow for The Keller Center for Cultural Apologetics. His books, articles, and videos demonstrate remarkable depth in covering everything from history to theology to biblical interpretation, all with a sharp but generous polemic. I don’t know anyone else engaging such a wide array of guests, from atheists to Roman Catholic priests to Orthodox theologians. Gavin tackles the hard topics, and his many viewers reward his courage.

Through The Keller Center you have a unique opportunity to learn from and engage directly with Gavin. Starting in June he’ll lead six sessions in an online learning cohort on “How Ancient Arguments Still Change Modern Hearts.” This course will offer an accessible, non-intimidating pathway to understand the best arguments for Christianity, and then offer practical suggestions for how to use them in everyday conversation and evangelism. Together you’ll talk with Gavin about questions such as

  • Does our world need a cause, and if so, does that point to God?
  • How does the universe’s design suggest a Creator?
  • Can atheism explain morality?
  • What reason do we have to believe that Jesus of Nazareth rose from the dead?
  • What about the problems of divine hiddenness and evil?

You won’t want to miss this unique opportunity to learn from Gavin and develop your contemporary witness with ancient arguments. Sign up soon to reserve a spot for you and your friends. If you have any questions about group rates, student rates, or church rates, email kellercohort@tgc.org.

Living Wisely in a Digital Age

Beyond making your life somewhat easier, and somewhat more distracted, your smartphone tells a story, whether you realize it or not. Have you considered whether ubiquitous access to the internet has made wisdom easier to attain? Or more attractive to pursue? Samuel James offers insightful perspective in this Gospelbound interview.

Finding the Edge in Your Preaching

Every preacher faces a challenge: effectiveness is diminished whenever we fail to connect God’s truth to contemporary concerns in a way that engages and holds the attention of our listeners. Learn from The Keller Center fellow Trevin Wax how to find biblical wisdom that cuts against the grain of what passes for “common sense” today.

Signs of Danger in Pastoral Burnout

Michael Kruger, a fellow for The Keller Center, talks with TGC Council member Dan Doriani about the importance of accountability in church structures to protect God’s people, and ways to support and heal communities affected by spiritual abuse. Holy churches contribute to powerful evangelistic witness.

We are excited that more than 200 people have signed up from a dozen countries to join us for a cohort on “Sexuality, Singleness, and Marriage.” Led by Rebecca McLaughlin and Sam Allberry, this cohort situates the Bible’s “no” to same-sex sexual relationships in the context of the Bible’s “yes” to love between believers, with the Bible’s greatest love-story of Jesus and his people at the heart of the message. The cohort aims to help church leaders recover the biblical vision for marriage and singleness and move toward a church culture that enfolds all believers in a family of love. Rebecca and Sam will also help church leaders think biblically and pastorally about the challenges and opportunities presented by the trans movement.

Registration remains open until May 2. Write kellercohort@tgc.org with questions about group rates, elder/preaching team rates, or church rates.
