The Fact of the Matter…Matters

Much like you, I have a lot to do today. There are concerns, tasks and responsibilities before me.

If I am not careful I can fall backwards into the pool of the day without thinking first about what truly matters. I can get baptized in the concerns of the day without baptizing my mind in the truth of the gospel.

Think about this: regardless of the weighty concerns or obligations of the day, the most pressing and urgent concern you and I face is acceptance before God.

Because, if we are unaccepted then God’s wrath abides upon us (John 3.36). That is, God would be justified to unleash the full measure of his wrath upon us at any moment. And we would be consumed. This would be just.

However, if you are trusting in Jesus, this is not the case. It is true that “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” (Rom. 8.1). There is abiding peace with God (Rom. 5.1). The most pressing and urgent priority of your life is accounted for.

What a liberating gust of fresh air. This gospel scent is to sink deep into the fabric of our hearts. We must not forget this. We must not eclipse this bright burning gospel light. It is truth that is to believed and enjoyed.

Take some time to think through the glorious truth of the gospel. The fact of the matter is, in Christ, you are not only ‘not guilty’ of sin but ‘declared righteous’ in Christ! Because of Jesus substitutionary life, death and resurrection, rebels like you and I have the everlasting righteousness of Jesus charged to us. This means that the big issue of our day is in place. This is the pole-star that calibrates all of the other stars in the galaxy of our responsibilities.

Therefore, rejoice in this truth. Remember the fact of the matter, because it matters!
