The Lack of Genuineness in Rejecting Jesus

“Now the chief priests and the whole council were seeking testimony against Jesus to put him to death, but they found none.”(Mark 14.55)

They have revealed their hand a bit here, haven’t they? There interests are not for justice but rather for blood. They want to kill Jesus. They want him destroyed.

This is often the case when we as sinful humanity interact with Jesus. When dealing with him there is not a genuine preoccupation with justice, truth or happiness. Instead, the driving priority is how he intersects with our personal comfort and life.

Perhaps most succinctly the chief appraisal and judgment of Christ by unbelieving humanity has to do with how he intersects with our own perceived authority. You may say that unbelievers agree with Jesus, you cannot have two masters, you will love the one and hate the other. Jesus and I cannot share the throne. I wish more people would be genuine about this fact. It would remove so much confusion.

In this case referenced above he is still the problem. As a result, they seek to eliminate him (the problem). Condemnation of Christ is the natural maturation of bristling against his Lordship.

This is why one of the first fruits of regeneration is a willingness to joyfully submit to the Lordship of Christ (Col. 3.15).

Isn’t this gospel of Christ glorious? See how it takes rebels like us who belittle the glory of Christ and make us into children who boast in him?
