In Acts chapter 4, when the church prays in response to persecution, they quote Psalm 2. That’s interesting. Psalm 2 is messianic. It’s about the world’s opposition to the authority of the Christ. The church properly applies it to Jesus and the opposition he faced. But their use of Psalm 2 also assumes that opposition to Jesus continues in opposition to his church.
If your church stands clearly for the biblical Jesus, you can expect opposition. But it isn’t about you. It’s about him. Your church has his authority all over it.
Take-aways: One, let’s be careful what we oppose. Even if our churches are imperfect, do they stand for the real Jesus? Okay. Two, let’s be bold about what we support. Our churches, though imperfect, deserve our enthusiasm, for the sake of Jesus. It’s one way we bow to his authority.
