A Prayer About My Anxieties
After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.” 2 At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it. Revelation 4:1-2 Heavenly Father, there are times when my anxieties far outnumber my assurances. If I’m not careful, I can turn any bad news item, any heartache, any disappointment, or any change in the weather into one more reason to be paralyzed by fear rather than liberated by faith.
Today, I need you to open the eyes of my heart to see, feel and believe the same vision you gave the Apostle John. In one of the most difficult times in John’s life, when everything seemed to be out of control, you didn’t give him a pep talk, you gave him a peep behind the scene of ALL things. Abba, Father, you threw open a door to heaven not to cheer John with golden streets, rather to “chill” John with the occupied throne.
What do I need today, Lord? I need to see that magnificent chair of dominion with you sitting on it… fully attentive, fully engaged, fully at work, and fully at peace. I need to know, in my heart of hearts, that you really are in control of ALL things; that you really are working in ALL things for the good of those who love you; that you really are at work making sure that in ALL things Jesus will have the ultimate supremacy.
Holy Spirit, help me to see my Father’s sovereign dominion over every threat of terrorism… over this crazy, broken economy… over the environment, whether or not there really is such a thing as global warming… over the chaos in my heart and in my family… over international conflicts and wars… over the inequities and injustices everywhere I look… over my children… over those who seem to mean me harm… over my insecurities, failures and sin… over ALL things.
And lastly, Lord Jesus, how I praise you. Because of who you are and what you have accomplished, the occupied throne of heaven has become to me a throne of grace. I really don’t have to be anxious about anything. I believe this, help me to be believe it even more. Amen
