I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior. 1 Tim 2:1-3
Heavenly Father, if there was ever a time for American believers to take this passage to heart, it’s today. It pleases you for us to pray for all people, including “kings and those in high positions.” In full view of our differing political persuasions, presidential convictions, and heightened emotions, we pray for President Donald Trump and his wife today. Not limiting our prayers to the US “First Family,” but certainly focusing our intercession there.
We pray for the Trumps care and healing; and wisdom for the USA “chain of command” responding to this challenging story. And we pray with hope for the vision of a peaceful life Paul gives us in this passage. Father, we know, because of the finished work of Jesus, we are destined for an eternity of “righteous, peace, and joy” – the culture of your Kingdom – Rom. 14:17. Hallelujah, and thank you. Hasten the coming of the forever-Day of “all things new” and beautiful.
Until then, we affirm the most heart-centering, peace-giving, hope-fueling Paul gives us in these verses. You, and only you, are “God our Savior.” Right in the middle of our unrest, vulnerability, and fears, we bow before you in worship, surrender, and love. May your kingdom come, and your will be done, on earth as in heaven. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ triumphant and grace-full name.
