“It is good to give thanks to the LORD, to sing praises to the Most High. It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning, your faithfulness in the evening”—and preach the Gospel to our hearts every hour in between. Psalm 92:1-2
Lord Jesus, no matter what our weekend agenda already looks like—“chill,” scary, or happy medium, there is one thread we intend to weave through the next several dozen hours: Giving thanks to you.
Jesus thank you for…
- Being our “righteousness, holiness, and redemption” (1Cor.1:30). We are as “saved” as you are perfect. For everything you are and have done has been gifted to us in the Gospel (Rom.4:22-25).
- “Working in all things for our good”—no exceptions (Rom.8:28). Sometimes that’s really hard to see, believe, or understand. Even though your timetable and ways are different than ours—nothing has been left to chance. All things have been left to you, Jesus, (John 3:35) and you are making all things new (Rev.21:5).
- “Reigning over the kings of the earth” (Rev.1:4; 17:14; 19:16). We really don’t have to live afraid. We really don’t. You have “all authority in heaven and on earth” (Matt.28:18)—not partial, contingent, or merely “spiritual” authority—but ALL authority—over our sunsets and sunrises, weal and woe, rapture and rupture, bounty and brokenness. That’s not fatalism; it’s awesomeness on Gospel steroids. You not only know who will “win” the American presidential election in 2024, but also who you’ll “sit down and set up” as mayor in Winter Garden, Florida, as monarch in Tonga, and as Prime Minister in Denmark… and the list goes on. Jesus, though I could extend this Giving Thanks list ad infinitum, I’ll stop with these three today. Make all three more precious and real to us than ever before. So Very
