Abandoning Ourselves to the Goodness and Grace of Our Father

Whom have I in heaven but you?

And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:25-26

Heavenly Father, as we ponder the impassioned declaration of the Psalmist, we also cry out, “Us too, Lord, us too!” May we live by the mathematics of mercy—faith calculating your unparalleled worth in a world of fool’s gold and temporal pleasures.

Grant us the perspective of eternity, that we might live our days with heaven’s hope and its matchless joys in view. Keep us gospel-sane—thinking with the mind of Christ, reasoning by the riches of grace, and worshipping you in Spirit and truth.

Father, give us more satisfaction in yourself than in any story, situation, or circumstance we might choose for ourselves. Thank you for giving us many gifts to enjoy, but we want you to be the most gratifying feast of hearts—our portion and passion, our treasure and inheritance. By your Holy Spirit, make it so. Make it more true and real to us than ever before.

Forgive us for our ingratitude and envy, our fears and lack of trust. Free us from every expression of entitlement and demandingness. Heal our gospel-amnesia, Father. We too easily forget that we are your children of delight; your daughters and sons of grace; those you’ve hidden in Christ, sealed for eternity, and rejoice over with singing.

Oh, blessed, loving, and merciful Father, we worship and adore you today, and forever. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ exalted and glorious name.
