“The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world. God has made a home in the heavens for the sun.” Ps.19:1-4

Heavenly Father, having spent the past 10 days on the shoreline of Mississippi and under the skyline of Montana, it’s not hard to muster a fresh, “Hallelujah and thank you.” How can anyone with any degree of sensory awareness and openness of heart not see your hand and heart in creation? As David celebrates in this Psalm, creation proclaims your glory—“proclaims” as in whispers and shouts, put us on our faces in awe and up on our feet to dance.

And to think… the entire earth is going to be filled with the knowledge of your glory, beauty, and majesty one Day. Every place will be just as special and magnificent as the next. Each hamlet, township, rural community and bustling metropolis—every square inch of creation will be liberated from decay and storms, consumer-abuse and environment disaster. Hallelujah!

Isaac Watts nailed it in “Joy to the World”: Heaven and nature will sing, as “fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plains repeat the sounding joy.” But Abba, these last 10 days also underscored for me that being in creation isn’t just about new “Wow-that’s-beautiful moments,” but also fresh “How-ya-doing moments?”

When we hear you speaking to us in creation, we usually get still, quiet, and vulnerable enough to hear you speak to us through our friends—through those with whom we are walking, traveling, fishing, vacationing, etc. That happened in Mississippi and in Montana—two great “M” states. Thank you for friends—for friends who get the Gospel and love your grace. Thank you for beauty-beholding and burdening-bearing friends. So Very Amen.
