“When my “heart-cares” are many, your consolations cheer my soul.” Ps. 94:19
Heavenly Father, we carry many kinds of “cares” in life—small, mid-size, and large. Because you are the Father of compassion and God of all comfort (2Cor.1:3), we come and camp out at your throne of grace today. Thank you for your constant welcome and steadfast love.
When King David affirmed, “your consolations cheer my soul,” your kind of “cheering” is much more than a pep-talk with pom-poms. Your “consolations” are oxygen for our respiratory system, water when we we’re barely thirsty or dangerously dehydrated, and hope when we’re facing known weaknesses and an unknown future.
On this January Tuesday, we cast every heart-care we possibly can on you. And for the ones we simply don’t seem to be able to let go of, Abba, loosen our grip and take them from us. Bring supernatural deliverance for entangled people we love, your healing presence for friends overwhelmed with anxiety or grief, and circumstance-shaped grace for all of us.
As 2024 unfolds, remind us that it’s your year, not ours. You aren’t nervously watching from afar, you are peacefully working all things together in keeping with the perfection of your will and timetable (Eph.1:11-12). And you are working in all things for our good (Rom.8:28). You are so loving, faithful, sovereign, and kind. Hallelujah, and So Very Amen.
