“Abide, Marinate, Remain, Immerse Yourselves in My Love”

Having loved his own who were in the world, Jesus now showed them the full extent of his love. (John 13:1). Until I return, “abide in my love and love each other as I have loved you” (Jn.15:9, 13:34-35, Rev.1:5-6).

Lord Jesus, it’s the day of “Easter Week” we call today Maundy, or “Mandate” Thursday—a day crammed full of glory and overflowing with grace. Having shared eternal glory with the Father, you now show measureless mercy and the grandeur of grace.

Getting low to wash the disciples’ feet was a prelude to getting even lower to wash their hearts. There is no greater love than the love you demonstrated in laying your life down for your friends—helpless sinners and God’s enemies. (John 15:3; Rom. 5:8-10). What wondrous love is this, indeed? The Good Shepherd gives his life for his lambs—the Lamb of God takes our death so we can live forever.

Stunned, silenced, moved to awe, and deep worship… that’s what we should be feeling, Jesus. Judas could betray you, but he could not sell you, neither could evil buy you. You were the one doing all the “buying” during Holy Week. For by your life, death, and resurrection, you secured the redemption of your every-nation bride and the transformation of all creation.

What wondrous love, measureless mercy, more-than-amazing grace…we are no longer our own—Hallelujah! We’ve been bought with a price and raised to life, hidden in you and married to you—called now to love others as you love us. Jesus, by the power that emptied your tomb and enthroned you on high, empower us to know more—much more, of the length, width, height, and depth of your love (Eph.3:19-20). We want to live and love to your glory all the way Home. So Very Amen.
