All I Want for Christmas Is Jesus’ Second Coming

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Rev. 21:4

Most grace-filled, all glorious Lord Jesus, you alone are worthy of our face-down adoration, our loud-shouting jubilation, and our hope-guaranteed anticipation.

You have loved us with an everlasting love, and served us with unparalleled generosity and faithfulness: From the day of your first cry, right out of Mary’s womb… to the day when you cried out from the cross, “It is finished!”… until the Day when “every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, (cry out) saying: ‘To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!’” (Rev. 5:1).

We add our own cry, and our tears. Oh, Jesus, come back and make it soon. We groan inwardly and wait expectantly for the Day of wiped tears, redeemed pain, and no more death—anywhere, in any form, or in anyone.

Jesus, I know I’m not alone, when I say I’ve never had more friends in tear-generating stories, heart-overwhelming circumstances, and anguish-fueling stretches of life.

I also know I’m not alone when I say, I am so ready to be completely whole, totally free, and comprehensively healed of all the effects of sin and death—around me, in me, and by me. Until the Day, free and empower us to love others as you love us. So exceedingly Very Amen.
