“Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. He fills my life with good things” (and SO much more). Psalm 103:1-4
Heavenly Father, I’m totally convinced gratitude, contentment, and worship are the best traveling companions we can have as we journey Home—all our remaining days between “this day and that Day.” Good friends are essential too, but we should never leave home without these 3 Gospel Amigos
They’re also the best way to withstand attacks from the devil, the world, and our own “flesh.” You sent a band of worshippers into battle against three of Israel’s waring enemies—the “Moabites, Ammonites, and Meunites” (2 Chronicles 20). The enemies of our heart-peace are not as obvious, but just as lethal.
When we indulge an attitude of comparison, envy, and ingratitude we’re simply giving joy-assassins and peace-pillagers the key to the front door of our hearts. So, on this October Friday, we take up King David’s revolutionary song of praise and thanks—making it ours. In our most “gospel-sane’ moments, we know the things for which we should be grateful outnumber our whine-worthy, heart-vexing items 10 to 1 if not 100 to 1.
Such as… 1. complete forgiveness, 2. the gift of Jesus’ righteousness, 3. adoption as your beloved children, 4. citizenship in heaven, and 5. Jesus as our joyful, reigning King. Father, if we stay alive to just these 5 of so many grace-gifts, surely we can trust you in the whirlwind, mysteries, and heartaches of life all the way Home. So Very Amen, we pray and trust.
