“We had no rest, but we were harassed at every turn—conflicts on the outside, fears within. But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus.” 2 Cor. 7:5-6

An Easy Ask: Friends, before I offer a prayer for us on this April Saturday, let’s take this passage to heart. It’s been a weary stretch for all of us. The paradox is, we offer some of our sweetest, most encouraging and comforting friendship from a place of weakness, not strength. Take the time this weekend to check in, love on, pray with, give kindness to a few friends.

Heavenly Father, today and every day, you are the Father of mercies and God of all comfort (2 Cor. 1:3-5). When like Paul, we are restless, hassled, conflicted, and fearful, you don’t “pull for us” from afar. You come near us. And though you can send ravens to feed us, angels to deliver us, and strangers to care for us, more often it’s a friend.

Titus came to Paul. Jonathan cared for David. Naomi welcomed Ruth. Priscilla and Aquila took time for Apollos (Acts 18:24-26). Philemon was a refresher to many (Phile. 1:7). Mary, Martha, and Lazarus gave hospitality and friendship to Jesus (John 10:38-42).

Father, thank you for our friends. But to whom would you send us as a conduit of your mercy and comfort this weekend? A call, a visit, a note, a text… it doesn’t take a lot of effort, and we don’t have to be in a great place ourselves, to offer a refreshing cup of your kindness. So Very Amen.
