“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in ALL our troubles, so we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” (2 Cor.1:3-4)
“We had no rest, but we were harassed at every turn—conflicts on the outside, fears within. But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus.” (2 Cor.7:5-6)
Heavenly Father, like every day, on this last Monday in September 2025 you are “the Father of mercies and God of all comfort (2 Cor.1:3-5). Like Paul, when we are restless, downcast, conflicted, and fearful, you don’t chide, coach, or criticize us. You come near in love. Though you can send birds to feed us, angels to deliver us, or a gentle breeze to sooth us—you love to send friends to encourage us.
Hallelujah for our friends who live damp with morning mercy, wear the cologne of grace, walk with a limp, and bring your kindness and care. Like Jesus, they don’t hide their scars (Jn.20:27; Gal.6:17) or shame the already shamed. Thank you, Abba.
Titus came to Paul. Jonathan cared for David. Naomi welcomed Ruth. Priscilla and Aquila took time for Apollos (Acts 18:24-26). Philemon was a refresher to many (Phile.1:7). Four nameless friends carried their crippled friend to Jesus (Mk.2:1-12). Mary, Martha, and Lazarus gave Jesus welcome and hospitality (Jn.10:38-42) in a world where he had no place to lay his head.
Father, thank you for our friends who come to mind right now as examples and conduits of your care. All week long, may we live and love as they do. It’s hard down here, and we’ll continue to need each other all the way Home. So Very Amen.
