“Whoever refreshes others will be refreshed” Prov.11:25
Lord Jesus, it’s everything-changing to hear you say to us in a loud voice, “Whoever is thirsty, come to me and drink… Rivers of living water will flow from your heart” (John 7:37-38). You are the ever-flowing fountain of grace, the mercy-oasis in the deserts of life, the welcoming cottage in the dark forest—with fire lit, meal ready, and arms extended. Thank you. We say with gladsome hearts, “my soul finds rest in God alone” (Ps. 62:1).
We know that whatever you give us, Jesus, is meant to be shared, because you always give us more than we need—”grace upon grace” (Jn.1:16), “overflowing with hope” (Rm.15:13), “increasing in love” (2Thess.1:3). So, as you refresh us in the Gospel today, make us refreshers to those around us this week. Heaven knows (literally, not metaphorically), we need more refreshers—generous with listening, well-timed with encouragement, conduits of the aroma of kindness.
As we live and love this way, it means we’re becoming more like you, Jesus, for you are the quintessential refresher. What more could we crave, hope for, and desire in life than to be more like you? You are in us and among us as one who serves, one who loves, one who refreshes. Thank you, Lord Jesus, thank you. So Very Amen.
