“Whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” Prov. 11:25
Lord Jesus, we can’t read these words without lifting ours heart and hands toward heaven. It’s impossible to ponder these four words, “he who refreshes others,” without thinking of you. For no one refreshes dry and weary hearts like you. Your mercies are new every morning; your grace is sufficient for every situation; your steadfast love will never come to an end.
Indeed, nothing is more refreshing than the Gospel, for it’s all about you—“the power of God for salvation” (Rom. 1:16); the provision of Abba for every day of our lives; the promise of the Scriptures for the renewal of all things. Hallelujah!
On this August Thursday, you still call out in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink” (John 7:37). I join my brothers and sisters in coming to you right now with my heart as wide open as the Gospel enables.
In fact, we’ll just take a running leap, and jump into the ocean of your grace. We don’t want a little “sippy cup,” open the fire hydrant of living water. Fill us to overflowing with the life-giving libation—the aquifer of heaven, the only beverage that can slake our deepest thirst, and satisfy us on our journey Home.
Freely we receive your refreshment, freely we will pass it on. To whom would you send us today, Jesus? Who needs encouragement, a call, a text, a prayer, a hug, a word of hope, a look of love? So very Amen we pray, in your kind and powerful name.
