“When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him.” Matt. 2:10-11

Lord Jesus, on the “church calendar,” today is “Epiphany” Sunday—the day set aside to commemorate the inextinguishable light of the Gospel breaking into the pervasive darkness of our world. Bethlehem’s star led the Maji to Mary’s son—to you, the Creator of the stars and sun, Savior of “Gentiles and Jews, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarians, Scythians, slaves and non-slaves” (Col.3:11). None of us is beyond the reach, need, and riches of your grace.

Though most of us have never tasted an “Epiphany cake,” we feast every day on the eternal manna of the Gospel. And we, figuratively and literally, join the Maji in falling down with exceeding joy in deep worship. For, Jesus, you are the Light of the World, the King of all Kings, the Lamb of God who has taken away our sin. Of the increase of your government and peace, there will be no end. Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah!

By your life, death, resurrection, and ascension… ‘The world has now become the Kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign forever and ever’” (Rev. 11:15). Jesus, what a perfect way to begin what we call in America an “election year.” But really, it’s the perfect way to live every day, with any passport, nationality, GPS location or color of skin.

All history is yours. The entire earth will be filled with your glory. You are making all things new, beautiful, and right. You are redeeming your every-nation Bride. Jesus, as anxious as we are about our current world, we have reasons galore to be 100 times more euphoric about your now-and-coming Kingdom. So Very Amen.
