“I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” Philippians 1:6

Most gracious and powerful Father, our salvation is a work we didn’t begin, and you alone can finish. We could never raise ourselves from spiritual death, perform our way out of our sin, or earn our way into your love. From beginning to end, our salvation is all of grace—the whole “redemptive enchilada.” Thank you.

We contributed nothing but our sin, and you gave everything to us in your Son, Jesus. O, the peace, joy, and freedom that comes with knowing the Gospel is as complete and good as you say it is. Some days (like yesterday for me) knowing you love us as much as you love Jesus—with an unwavering, no-looking-back, never-holding-our-sins-against-us-love—those days are life-giving, exquisite, and greatly appreciated.

I certainly would not be as patient with me as you are. If I were you, I’d have serious doubts about my “potential,” sincerity, and “save-ability.” All of this very tongue in cheek, Father. Because (Hallelujah!) I am not you, and you are SO not like me.

Yet as bad as I realize my attitude got yesterday, you know my need of your grace was much greater. And as new as I know your mercies are for today, you know they are way more plenteous, powerful, and contingency-free than I “get.” Thank you, Father. Here’s to a day of quick repentances, abiding in Jesus’ love, and walking in your Spirit. So Very Amen.
