I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. Phil. 4:11
Lord Jesus, the bell for contentment-school is always ringing—beckoning us to class. There’s no summer break and graduation will only happen the day we “graduate” into heaven.
Left unchecked, ingratitude, disgruntlement, and envy infect our hearts and poison our relationships;. We come to you on this July Monday, acknowledging a need you alone can meet. Supersize the grace of contentment in our lives.
Whether we are “lovin’ life” or are dreading today, feast on the finest fare or a date-expired can of “Beanie-Weenies,” if we are well-celebrated or under-appreciated… Jesus, we want to get, be, and stay grateful.
Whether have discretionary funds for splurging or financial pressures out the wazoo, have our dream job or a nightmare vocation… we want to live with the heart-peace of your providence and provision.
Whether our kids “rise up and call us blessed” or are in an open-ended season of prodigality, whether our other relationships “rock” or are rocky … Jesus, we want to live with you as our singular treasure, deepest satisfaction, and our experiential “enough-ness.”
Jesus, you’re not asking us to live with indifference, enter a “Zen-like” feel-nothing trance, or deny desire and delight. You are calling us into deeper intimacy with yourself. Thank you.
By your Spirit, convict us when we default to comparing, murmuring, and complaining. Heal us of our grace-allergies and Gospel-amnesia. We too easily forget every good thing we have in you. Keep us redemptively-restless until we rest in you, Jesus. So Very Amen.
